THE FIGHT I DIDN’T CHOOSE
Life flipped overnight. My son, a gifted swimmer and rising talent, suffered a freak accident at a swim meet that changed everything. Panic attacks, lost confidence, and a slow unraveling began. That same year, after nearly 29 years of marriage, I faced divorce. One partner driven, the other battling an addiction I couldn't save him from. We’d already lost everything six years prior—but this time, I had to protect what remained: my kids, our peace, and whatever pieces of myself I could salvage.
THE MOMENT THAT NEARLY BROKE ME
New house, new chapter. I juggled work, survival, and watching my son struggle in silence until a psychiatrist told me the words I wasn’t ready to hear: the son you once knew isn’t the one you have now. I’ll remember that moment as if time stood still. No manual, no lifeline. I held it together while falling apart inside. Grateful for my mother, my strength, and for my daughter, who is my other reason to keep showing up.
THE TURNING POINT
I’d spent nine years rebuilding my life after losing everything. Confident, I left a job that helped us survive and thrive, knowing it was time for change. I accepted a position with a Fortune 500 company but soon realized I wasn’t told the full truth about the client. Sensing it wasn’t a good fit—and facing another health scare with my son—I did the unthinkable: I quit. No backup plan. No safety net. Just the realization that for the first time, my mental health had to come first. Grief, doubt, and uncertainty hit hard, but life made the decision for me—I became my son’s full-time caregiver. With no clear future in sight, ideas began to spark and purpose started to take shape. Designs, concepts, and vision came together slowly but intentionally. It’s taken longer than I imagined, but I’ve learned that being present as a parent isn’t a detour—it’s part of the purpose.
